Free Letterpress workshops for artists - Bristol Set in Print

Contact: Charlotte Biszewski bristolsetinprint@gmail.com
Bristol Set In Print will be running 4 workshops over the summer months. These are aimed at those with a little experience and interest in Letterpress printing, the idea will be to have a group comprised of a mix of illustrators, artists, writers, graphic designers. There may be the possibility of some warm up workshops before these take place for those who are completely new to the practice.
These workshops will be delivered by a group of ex-printers from the letterpress print industry in Bristol. It will a chance for a unique collaboration celebrating the history of the city whilst developing a new form of print. The plan will be to create a large artwork of  a large map, showing where the old print houses once were.

There will be four workshops taking place either at Spike Print Studio or The Letterpress Colletive Each will involve a different stage of the printing processes.

21st of May- This will be an Introduction into the world of Print and the project.

We will start by looking a little bit of History into the background of the Bristol Print Industry. We will have a chance to design the final artwork, together we will create a map of Bristol, looking at where the print houses once were.

11th of June- Composition.

We will begin to set the type for the project.

We will be working with a group of compositors, exploring spacing and the techniques of setting, in this informal workshop.
16th and 17th of July- Machine Minding and Finishing.
Saturday and Sunday will be our final weekend of printing. For this stage we will work with a team of Machine Minders and NATSOPA's.
